The Beloved Designer Who Celebrated Trees All Year Long

As 2025 closed out, I sorted through images from my retired blog. The handiwork of Darryl Moland, a revered art director at Southern Living, Cooking Light, and other publications popped up.

Darryl made his mark in the magazine world. As a photographer and stylist, he blogged at The Decorated Tree and published a book by the same name. You might call Darryl “a man for all seasons,” as he collected ornaments year-round and devised imaginative tablescapes.

Most of all, Darryl was a gentle, loving friend to all sentient beings. And he had the rare gift to create something lovely that reminded us to treasure the time we have.
